據外媒報道，日本松下電器公司（Panasonic）自兩年前發明“疏水沙（Hydrophobic sand）”以來，歷經兩年的開發應用，最近發表近期成果顯示，使用該技術，不僅能生產出綠色無公害農產品，并且作物的生長速度也較快。
疏水砂技術是松下公司為了防止電子鍋沾上鍋巴或臟污，而在電子鍋的內鍋涂上一層撥水性物質而發掘出的靈感。經由這項原理應用于土壤上，可以將砂子的表面均勻包裹厚度僅數奈米的撥水性物質，利用這些砂粒層可以將水留在土壤內不流失，同時可以改善肥料外流與含鹽水分滲入現象，最終使得水資源與肥料充分被利用，改善土壤與農業收成。
